Opossum Removal Services
Opossums are generally found in open wooded areas, but more commonly seek habitats near streams and swamps. Since they are nocturnal, they are seldom found out during the daytime hours. At night they move around a lot and tend to not stay in one den each night.
Typically opossums raid gardens, chicken coops, bird feeders, pet food, and garbage. They sometimes house themselves in garages or attics, and, when they do, they typically make a mess.
While many woodland creatures harbor ticks that spread Lyme disease, opossums are extremely efficient tick-killing animals. In one season opossums can kill thousands of ticks. They do however carry parasites found in their feces called equine protozoal myelitis (EPM). This parasite can contaminate water and food sources for other animals, such as horses. EPM is a progressive, degenerative neurological disease of the central nervous system that can cause paralysis of muscles of the eyes, face, or mouth.
Opossums will growl, hiss, and/or screech when they are threatened. Remember, if an opossum is hissing or drooling that does not necessarily mean that it is rabid. When threatened, they may bare their teeth and make a lot of noise. Opossums will drool, bite, or leak a nasty fluids out of its rear. Your safest bet is to give us a call so we can humanely trap and remove an unwelcome opossum.
